Ovarian cancer statistics
The ovaries are a pair of organs in the female reproductive system. They are located in the lower part of the abdomen, one on each side of the uterus (womb). They produce eggs and hormones.
Ovarian cancer starts when cells in one or both or the ovaries become abnormal, they divide and grow to form a tumour.
There are different types of ovarian cancer that start in different types of cells. These are epithelial ovarian cancers, germ cell ovarian cancers and sex-cord stromal cancers.
