Stomach cancer statistics

The stomach is part of the gastrointestinal system or gut. It is located in the upper part of the abdomen. 

Stomach cancer starts when cells in the stomach lining become abnormal. These cells divide and grow to form a cancer. 

There are two main types of stomach cancer. These are gastric adenocarcinoma (gastric cancer) and gastro-intestinal stromal tumours (GIST).
