NSW Prostate Clinical Cancer Registry
Data coverage
The NSW PCCR captures diagnosis, treatment, quality of life and mortality data for men diagnosed with prostate cancer in NSW from 1 January 2015, at participating sites.
Data sources
Data for the NSW PCCR is sourced from the NSW Cancer Registry, patients' medical records in participating hospitals, and from the rooms of participating clinicians. Quality of life information is collected directly from men at 12 months after their diagnosis or treatment for prostate cancer.
Electoral Roll data from the NSW Electoral Commission are provided to the Cancer Institute NSW for the purpose of ensuring the accuracy of records on people diagnosed with cancer.
Data are provided to the Cancer Institute NSW by the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages for the purpose of ensuring that deceased people are not contacted.
Data availability
Data collection commenced in January 2016 for men diagnosed from 1 January 2015. Data are expected to be available late 2021.
Data elements
The NSW PCCR collects data including:
- patient demographics
- initial diagnosis and staging information
- clinical examination results
- treatment details
- self-reported quality of life measures for participating men.

Data quality
Data quality is assured by:
- regular checks of completeness of data items
- investigation of incomplete reporting
- de-duplication processes
- training and review of data collection staff and adherence to guidelines by data collection staff
