Specialist Cancer Centres

This is an initiative that aims to improve cancer outcomes and inform where people receive cancer treatment.

It involves determining criteria for hospitals and cancer centres to be promoted as specialist centres for the management of specific cancer types.

Specialist Cancer Centres

Criteria are determined in collaboration with the cancer health system and using the latest data and evidence.

The process involves:

  • reviewing the latest research evidence
  • analysing data from NSW hospitals and cancer centres
  • determining appropriate criteria, by cancer type, for specialist centres to be promoted
  • seeking advice from clinical advisory groups at every step of the process.

Using this approach, NSW hospitals and cancer centres that meet the agreed criteria are promoted as specialist centres on the Cancer Institute NSW and Canrefer websites
