Over the past three decades the number of cases of pancreatic cancer in New South Wales has approximately doubled for males and nearly tripled for females. A similar pattern is observed for deaths from pancreatic cancer. In 2006, pancreatic cancer accounted for 2.2 per cent of all new cases of cancer. Pancreatic cancer accounted for 5.4 per cent of all cancer deaths and was the sixth most common cause of cancer mortality in New South Wales in 2006.

The NSW Government has today released a report that highlights the need to develop methods for diagnosing pancreatic cancer and new therapies to substantially improve survival of patients.
