The eviQ program: Supporting the delivery of safe, high-quality cancer care
The Cancer Institute NSW eviQ program is a centralised source of evidence-based clinical protocols and cancer learning resources, all available free via eviq.org.au and education.eviq.org.au.
eviQ is considered a safe place to start when it comes to providing high-quality care to people with cancer. For more than 20 years, eviQ has supported health professionals across NSW and nationally in the delivery of cancer treatments, ensuring Australian cancer care is world class.
eviQ is endorsed by every Australian state and territory as a preferred source of cancer treatment information. The program’s highly respected clinical resources are used globally by health professionals across more than 220 countries.
What is the goal of eviQ?
eviQ’s vision is to support the delivery of safe, high-quality cancer care.
The cancer landscape is constantly changing, driven by an increased number of anticancer drugs approved for use, emerging treatments, and complex side effects impacting patient outcomes and quality of life.
Through eviQ, we reduce the burden on individual cancer services to develop their own clinical protocols and resources. Use of eviQ resources also leads to less variation in care across Australian cancer services.
How does eviQ work with health professionals?
The eviQ program collaborates with cancer health professionals to develop evidence-based cancer resources across a range of topics.
Working in partnership with health professionals is essential to eviQ – it’s a program for clinicians, developed with clinicians.
All eviQ resources are reviewed by practising medical, nursing and allied health clinicians across Australia and are clinician-endorsed. Information is designed to support health professionals working at the point of care in cancer across rural, remote metropolitan and regional settings.
The program has strict governance and resource development processes. eviQ considers the latest evidence and seeks clinical expertise from Australian healthcare professionals who generously volunteer their time. The invaluable feedback of clinicians informs the development and review of cancer treatment protocols and education resources for use at the point of care.
What is on eviQ?
The eviQ program manages thousands of resources across several topics, including medical oncology, haematology, bone marrow transplant, radiation oncology, and cancer genetics.
Each clinical protocol includes specific, evidence-based information, such as:
- drug dosing
- how to prescribe and administer the treatment safely
- toxicities and side effects
- how drug dose modifications should be made for a particular type of tumour.
eviQ also develops accompanying patient-focused information, which are used to support patients as part of their cancer treatment education.
Through eviQ Education, clinicians can access cancer learning resources, supporting them to keep their professional skills up to date and develop their skills so that they can deliver safe, evidence-based cancer care.
