Clinical trials are research studies designed to test new approaches to treatment and care, with the aim of improving people’s health. Clinical trials can result in new and better treatment options for patients. It’s important that everyone diagnosed with cancer has equal opportunities to learn, ask questions and access clinical trials.

To ensure people diagnosed with cancer have access to cutting-edge treatments, the Cancer Institute NSW aims to improve patient access and support the growth and sustainability of clinical trial units and their workforce.

In 2024-25:

  • 858 cancer clinical trials were conducted in NSW 
  • 3,281 people enrolled in cancer clinical trials in NSW
  • $5 million was provided by the Cancer Institute NSW to clinical trials units across NSW to strengthen their capacity, support workforce development and promote innovation
