Specialist Cancer Centres

Cancer Institute NSW works collaboratively across the health system to support improvements in cancer care, by using data to drive positive change.

Specialist Cancer Centres

An initiative that aims to save more lives from cancer and inform where people receive cancer treatment

To achieve this, we collaborate with the health system and use the latest data and evidence to determine and promote hospitals that meet the criteria as a specialist centres.

The process involves:

  • reviewing the latest research evidence
  • analysing data from NSW hospitals and cancer centres
  • determining criteria, by cancer type, for specialist centres to be promoted
  • seeking advice from clinical advisory groups at every step of the process

Based on this, NSW hospitals and cancer centres that meet agreed criteria are identified and promoted as specialist centres on the Cancer Institute and Canrefer websites.
