Associate Professor Abhijit Pal is a Medical Oncologist at South Western Sydney Local Health District
Associate Professor Abhijit Pal remains committed to improving equitable outcomes in cancer in New South Wales through a variety of initiatives both locally and at the state level. He is the lead researcher in a CINSW funded grant on a pilot program of co-designed Arabic bilingual navigators that is nearing completion and has demonstrated innovative learnings about cancer and research literacy, and also a SPHERE funded grant on understanding barriers to research participation in SWSLHD and SESLHD. He is also a member of the $25 million ALLCLEAR breast cancer grant funded by NBCF and is a key member of Workstream 5 which focusses on ensuring equity and diversity in the cohort of women recruited to the research program.
He was awarded a PhD in 2024 by the University of Sydney focusing on equity and diversity in clinical trials in Australia. As a clinician-researcher, he has 35 papers, 10 of which as senior or first author, and remains a committed academic and mentors junior trainees to publish in the area. He continues to present on equity at key conferences including the NSW Cancer Summit running an inaugural workshop on measuring equity. He also is Principal Investigator of multiple Phase 1 - 3 clinical trials at Liverpool Hospital and is deeply involved in LHD clinical trials governance and is able to combine an interest in medical oncology with an interest in equity in South West Sydney. In recognition of his ongoing efforts, he was promoted to Conjoint Associate Professor at Western Sydney University in July 2025.
