Two grants valued at $3.75 million each have been awarded by Cancer Institute NSW to support research, which aims to rapidly improve cancer care and outcomes across the state.

It takes a village to care for someone with advanced cancer. Through this time and beyond their end of life, palliative care is there to provide practical and emotional support to their families and loved ones.

In Australia, two in three people with cancer who are at end of life receive specialist palliative care. In this stage of a person’s cancer journey, the focus is on ensuring comfort, symptom relief and helping them live their life as fully as possible.

For many people, palliative care is associated with end of life. But in reality, it is more than that. There are teams across NSW dedicated to managing symptoms and enhancing the wellbeing of people with life-limiting illnesses, like cancer, and their families – helping them make the most of each day and focus on what’s important to them.

A new study is aiming to change the way ovarian cancer is treated in NSW, offering better outcomes for women with the disease.
