What are PRMs?
Gathering PRMs involves asking cancer patients about their experiences, symptoms and outcomes. There are two categories of PRMs, patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and patient-reported experience measures (PREMs).
Patient-reported measures (PRMs)
PROMs: Patient-reported outcome measures
A person with cancer’s perspective on their wellbeing (including how cancer treatment is impacting them) and how distressed they are feeling.
PREMs: Patient-reported experience measures
A person with cancer’s perception of their experiences within the healthcare system.
Listening to people with cancer, improving care:
The impact of PRMs at every level

Person with cancer
When a person with cancer shares how they’re feeling in real time, care teams can respond faster to their needs, provide the right support and strengthen partnerships in care.

Clinicians
Through insights gathered from PRMs, clinicians are able to better understand the person behind the diagnosis, their overall wellbeing and provide holistic care.

Cancer services
PRMs enables cancer services to identify people who need the most support. Aggregated data also inform clinical workflows, models of care, service reviews and quality improvement.

Broader NSW Health system
PRMs data provides a rich (and growing) evidence base to inform policies on best practice care, enable research partnerships and foster collaboration across disciplines and sectors.
The PROMising Impact series
The PROMising Impact series showcases local innovation and leadership in implementing the cancer PRMs system and scaling routine collection of PROMs in clinical care.
