When to have your Cervical Screening Test

You can have your Cervical Screening Test any time during your menstrual cycle.

Many women ask the question, ‘can I have a Cervical Screening Test when I’m on my period?’.

The answer is yes, you can have a Cervical Screening Test at any time during your menstrual cycle.

However, most women find it more comfortable to schedule their appointment at a time outside of their period when they are not bleeding.

If you have experienced menopause, you can have a Cervical Screening Test at any time.

Not sure when your next Cervical Screening Test is due?

The Cervical Screening Test is for women and anyone with an intact cervix aged between 25-74 who have ever been sexually active.

A Cervical Screening Test every five years could save your life, so it is important not to delay your screening appointment if you are due or overdue.

The National Cancer Screening Register (NCSR) will send you a reminder letter when your next test is due. You can also find out when you are due for your test by accessing the online Participant Portal or calling 1800 627 701.
