The reduction in cancer mortality over time was smaller in older people than in younger people. Further research is needed to achieve the best trade-offs between cancer control and harm avoidance in older people.

The risk of prostate cancer was increased following a diagnosis of cutaneous melanoma. This raises the potential for future prostate cancer risk to be discussed when men are diagnosed with cutaneous melanoma.

Cervical cancer survival was lowest for women with comorbidity. There was no clear comorbidity-survival gradient for Indigenous women. Further investigation of potential drivers for the lower cervical cancer survival rates in Indigenous women is warranted.

Oncologists strongly prefer smoking cessation interventions to be managed by other health workers. The majority believed that they required more training in cessation interventions and cited multiple additional barriers to providing cessation care.

Chemotherapy in patients with unresected pancreatic cancer in Australia: a population-based study of
Consultation with an oncologist mitigated most of the sociodemographic and service-related disparities in chemotherapy use. There is a need to establish referral pathways to ensure that all patients have the opportunity to discuss treatment options with a medical oncologist.
