World Cancer Day

World Cancer Day is observed each year on 4 February to improve cancer awareness, as well as to recognise the work done to prevent, detect and treat cancer. In 2026, its theme is United by Unique - highlighting the stories of the people at the centre of care.

World Cancer Day

World Cancer Day is an international day observed every 4 February to raise awareness about cancer, encourage its prevention, and mobilise action to address the global cancer epidemic. It's a global reminder that cancer impacts everyone, regardless of who we are or where we live.

The day is led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and the theme for 2026 is United by Unique. This theme recognises that behind every cancer diagnosis lies a unique human story, which is why a person-centred approach to cancer care leads to the best outcomes.

As the state’s leading cancer control agency, the Cancer Institute NSW observes World Cancer Day and uses it as an opportunity to unite us all in our shared vision to lessen the impact of cancer in NSW.
