Early Stage One teaching resources

The Early Stage One (Kindergarten) resources provide opportunities to incorporate sun safety content and outcomes across the Early Stage One PDHPE and Science and Technology syllabuses through cross-curricular and project-based learning pedagogical approaches.
A range of materials are provided for use with students with varying competencies. Some video links provide good visual stimulus however introduce content aimed primarily at older students. They can be used with students or to assist teachers to develop their own understanding of sun safety.
Using an investigation of safe practices relating to the sun and the skin, students will use critical thinking skills and research, evaluate, investigate, design and communicate to explore strategies that can be effectively implemented to make their world safer from UV radiation.
Through a key focus on the five forms of sun protection (Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek, Slide), students can experience learning as a Myth Buster or a Designer, creating hat and shade shelter designs as well as learning about the impact of UV radiation on the skin.
Teachers can choose between pathways that enable either a student-centred design that allows discovery via a range of stimulus activities, or a teacher-directed module that encourages student collaboration. Teachers are encouraged to use appropriate resources to suit the end goal.
