LGBTQ eLearning module: What we found: Collaboration

The Institute and ACON have collaborated on LGBTQ targeted health education projects since 2014.

Collaboration and a co-design approach have provided significant value to both organisations. It builds on each organisation’s strengths – the Institute bringing cancer expertise and relationships across NSW Health and government, and ACON contributing its understanding of and connection with LGBTQ communities across Australia.

The collaboration led to successful impacts with 92% of participants stating that they were extremely or vary satisfied with the overall training; 92% found the information they received in this training extremely valuable or very valuable; 86% of participants were extremely or very likely to recommend the training to others.

Delivering equitable and inclusive health care that meets the needs of LGBTQ communities, their families, carers, and social networks starts with improving knowledge and awareness among clinicians. The ACON/Institute co-designed LGBTQ Communities and Cancer Care eLearning module has shown to be an informative and easy to understand learning resources that contributes to this goal by educating clinical and non-clinical cancer service staff on delivering safe and inclusive care, adopting a wholistic approach, and using gender affirming care to meet the unique health and wellbeing issues faced by LGBTQ communities.
