Stage Four teaching resources
The Stage Four (Year 7 and 8) resources provide opportunities to incorporate sun safety content and outcomes across the Stage Four PDHPE and Science syllabuses through cross-curricular and project-based learning pedagogical approaches.
Using an investigation of safe practices relating to the sun and the skin protection, students will use critical thinking skills as well as research, evaluation, investigation, design and communication skills to explore strategies that can be effectively implemented to make their world safer from ultraviolet radiation.
Students have the opportunity to conduct shade audits of their playgrounds, explore the sun protection behaviours of NSW students, investigate myths relating to sun safety, how UV interacts with different materials, and more.
Teachers can choose between pathways that enable either a student-centred design that allows discovery via a range of stimulus activities, or a teacher-directed module that encourages student collaboration. Teachers are encouraged to use appropriate resources to suit the end goal.
