Overall results

Networking

80% of attendees rated Networking as ‘excellent’ or ‘very good’

Key stakeholders from across the NSW cancer system were consulted and engaged in the development of the Multicultural Health Services and Cancer Services Forum. Stakeholders importantly participated in the delivery of the forum through presenting, facilitating, supporting and representing their areas.

Further, the Forum was attended by a diverse range of attendees enabling a distinct opportunity to network, discuss service needs and contribute ideas to cultivate stronger connections to improve outcomes for CALD communities.

“It was a great day, valuable and insightful. [I] came away thinking even just the smallest of projects and ideas is a great starting point to make change.”

Awareness and sharing of CALD initiatives and resources

The most favoured content on the day were the rapid-fire presentations, 84% of attendee respondents rating them ‘very good’ and ‘excellent’

The Multicultural Health Services and Cancer Services Forum provided a platform for the cancer system to significantly increase awareness and share multicultural initiatives and resources.

It was acknowledged that collaboration between stakeholders is important to share expertise, learn from each other and model ways of working when providing culturally appropriate care. The Forum provided these opportunities to explore future partnerships and potential for a state-wide collaborative approach to produce resources and tackle shared challenges.

98% of delegates said the Forum provided opportunities to enable future partnerships.

Embedding culturally responsive care

98% of attendees reported the Forum provided a greater understanding of culturally responsive care

The Multicultural Health Services and Cancer Services Forum provided stakeholders with an increased understanding of what culturally responsive care looks and acknowledged the need to have a multifaceted lens and be delivered in consultation with patients and families.

The Forum further provided a space for stakeholders to identify, discuss and understand gaps in service provision, identifying the importance of practical and applied solutions that need to be explored including the absence of systemic collection of patient demographic data on migrant populations.

“Passion of workforce, data views, amazing work being undertaken, need to have a statewide, collaborative approach.”
